Peter had been tired from his trip and was happy to have slept well into the morning. His mentor , Mr. Joshua Odutola, had been very glad to see him arrive in Usi Ekiti in one peice, worried about the bruising all over his face and body. He had wanted to dig into the cause of the bruising at 4.00a.m when he had arrived but Peter had been saved by Joshua’s wife who had been adamant about allowing the young man to rest. Peter was thankful for this respite and had sunk into the bed she had provided with relief.

Awake now, he decided to search for his host whom he found sitting with another older man under one of the many trees in the well tended garden. He had never seen this other man before but from the way the two heads were bent towards each other, he knew the two men were good friends with a shared history although Pa Joshua seemed to be the older of the two men.
‘Ah Peter, you are up. Come and sit with us. This is my friend, Pius Ambali’. I have known this man for many many years. He is one of the people I refer to as a great man. He is loyal and steadfast and best of all he is intelligent. Said Pa Joshua. Before he could continue, Pius interjected
‘You are too kind sir. ‘Don’t mind him, young man. I owe this man everything that I am today. It is he who took me out of my poor family and single handedly sent me through school. At the time, he had not even finished school or started a job. He took on many odd jobs to keep us afloat, but he did it for me. This was long before he got married to his wonderful wife or even had kids’ said Pius, eyes alight as he remembered the good old days.

‘Thank you Pius. You have always been quite a story teller’ teased Pa Joshua. ‘Well, Pius, this is my son, Peter. He is very dear to my heart because his late mother rented a room to me when I was on transfer out of LasGidi.

Unfortunately, his mother passed away that year and I have been interested in him since then. He is here to recuperate from some incident that he has been involved in. He is yet to tell me about it though’ said Pa Joshua reminding Peter that he was still interested in what had happened to him.
‘Ah, nice to meet you Peter.’ Said Pius Ambali, secretly tickled at the number of times he had heard the name Peter today. Apparently Alhaji Gabbo and Chief Owen Browne were both looking for a Peter Owhoko. He knew it could never be this gentle looking guy because that Peter sounded like a trouble maker. He had to remember to call Olu to order because he hated being disturbed during his vacation. Pius was lost so deep in thought that he did not hear a word that Peter had been saying. He had zoned out, physically present, but mentally absent.
‘….Daddy, that is how they tied me up and began to hit me. I was beaten like a common criminal. Me, Peter Owhoko, treated like this and for no just cause? Till now, my boss doesn’t know where I am. In fact I am almost certain that his boys left me in that hospital to die’ Pius zoomed in and could not believe his ears. What were the odds? Could this really be the same Peter Owhoko? This had to be the easiest case he had ever had to solve. What should he do now?
Pius looked from the face of one man to the other, aware that he could never betray his benefactor by handing over his adopted son to his bosses. Admittedly, there was money to be made, but would he do this at the expense of their long relationship? He peeked at the face of his phone to check the picture that had been emailed to him. The moment he confirmed it was the same man, he spoke up, interrupting Peter.
‘Gentlemen’ he interrupted ‘we have an issue on our hands’ he faced Peter ‘Peter, there is a bounty on your head from two quarters.

I cannot reveal the persons now but you need to have a plan. What do you want us to do?’
A confused Peter looked from man to man, wondering what had happened again. ‘Bounty on my head? What did they say I did this time?’ He was fed up! Must trouble always trail him?
