Rowe meets up with Feef to impress on her the importance of her role, and reveals that she had a predecessor. Labour MP Hugh’s principles are challenged when he’s told to vote to accept the American Loans deal which will help to build the welfare state. Feef boldly attempts to charm her stony boss Priscilla into giving her a break in the Cabinet Office, but Priscilla is no pushover.

Feef takes Hugh to her brother’s disastrous wedding, where she begins to feel the moral compromise of her secret life. But as she begins to find her work for Rowe rewarding, Feef uncovers two possible suspects in the hunt for a Soviet mole.
